WHAT IT DOES
About this tool
Trace every redirect a URL goes through and see each hop with its status code (301, 302, 307, 308), its timing and the final destination.
The check runs on our server: we send only the address or file you entered and show the result right away. Nothing is stored.
QUESTIONS
Frequently asked questions
301 or 302: which redirect should I use?
Use 301 (or 308) when a page has moved for good, for example after a domain or URL change. Search engines then pass the rankings on to the new address. Use 302 (or 307) only for temporary moves, such as a maintenance page.
Why are redirect chains bad?
Every hop adds another network round trip, so pages load more slowly, especially on mobile. Search engines may also stop following long chains. Point links and old URLs straight at the final address.
What is a redirect loop?
Two or more addresses that redirect to each other, so the browser never reaches the page and shows "too many redirects". It often happens when the server and the CDN each force HTTPS or www in different ways.
