What is a HEIC file?
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the photo format iPhones use by default. It takes up about half the space of a JPG of the same quality, but Windows, many websites and older apps can't open it.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion happens in your browser, so private photos never leave your device. Large batches may take longer on older phones.
How do I stop my iPhone from saving photos as HEIC?
Open Settings → Camera → Formats and choose "Most Compatible". New photos will be saved as JPG. Or keep HEIC and set Settings → Photos → Transfer to Mac or PC to "Automatic", so photos are converted when you copy them to a computer.
