WHAT IT DOES
About this tool
Create MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 hashes for text or files and compare them with a checksum. Everything runs in your browser.
Everything runs right in your browser: your text and files are never uploaded or stored.
QUESTIONS
Frequently asked questions
Which hash should I use?
SHA-256 for checking downloads and general integrity. MD5 and SHA-1 are broken for security purposes and should only be used to match old checksums. To store passwords, use a slow algorithm such as bcrypt or Argon2, not any of these.
How do I verify a downloaded file?
Drop the downloaded file here, paste the checksum published by the software's author into "Compare with" and see whether it matches. If the hashes differ, the file is damaged or has been altered.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Hashes are calculated in your browser, so even large private files never leave your device.
